ATTENTION: We're pleased to announce that EI 2021 will be fully online! We recognize that one of the most important features of attending EI is interacting with colleagues from Industry and Academia. We are committed to making community connection a priority and to providing ample opportunities to meet and discuss personally with others. We see the move to an online platform as an opportunity for greater numbers of people to join from around the world. Join us on this exciting adventure . . . submit your work today!

Conference Overview

The Material Appearance Conference is entering its seventh year. For many manufactured and natural products, appearance is a signature of quality and a criterion of choice for end-customers. Material appearance is therefore crucial to evaluate, physically and/or perceptually.

Appearance is also increasingly important to 3D printing and new surface coating/texturing technologies, which aim at either reproducing the visual aspect of typical objects, or designing innovative ones.

From the definition of appearance attributes, such as color, gloss, or translucency, to the practical ways these attributes can be evaluated in a specific applicative context, e.g. instruments able to quantify the glossiness of human skin before and after application of a cosmetic product, the Material Appearance conference aims at gathering a broad variety of knowledge, and rendering the current pioneering research in both academic and industrial laboratories for the promotion of efficient appearance evaluation tools.

The inter-disciplinary nature of the conference is rendered by a variety of classical and interactive sessions:
