Camera Image Quality Analysis from HW/SW/Tuning Specifications to Final Image Quality
Instructors: Claudio Greco and Benoit Pochon, DXOMARK IMAGE LABS
Level: Intermediate
Duration: 4 hours
Course Date/Time: Sunday 15 January 13:30 - 17:45
Benefits:
This course enables the attendee to:
- Understand the difference between measuring camera module properties using RAW images and the full camera quality using JPG files.
- Learn how to measure the physical properties of a camera module using RAW images.
- Learn how to measure the global image quality of a camera using the final RGB images.
- Learn how to create a measurement protocol of a camera.
Course Description:
Image quality is the combination of hardware, ISP, software, system integration and tuning. Engineers need to understand camera capabilities from hardware component to the full system in order to provide the best compromise to the final users. In this course we describe how to evaluate both and explain the impact of each metric on the image pipeline.
-
Camera hardware capabilities evaluation.
- Benefits of using RAW image for sensor and lens evaluation.
- Sensor and lens evaluation: link between image measurement and pixel physical properties
- Final image quality evaluation
- Methodology and metrics.
- Texture and noise case study
- Protocol, measurements, and metrics descriptions
- Overview of the camera improvement and its results over the past decade
Intended Audience:
Image scientists, engineers, and technicians involved in the design and evaluation of image quality of cameras.
Claudio Greco obtained his PhD in image and signal processing at the ENST (now IMT) (2011). After a few years of research and teaching in academia, he joined the DxOMark team in 2014. He participated to the development of several Analyzer measures and iterations of the DXOMARK protocol. He currently leads the Image Processing engineers of the Analyzer Team and acts as image science director.
Benoit Pochon received his Master’s in engineering from Centrale Supelec (2001) and his Master’s in electrical engineering from GeorgiaTech University (2001). After several years working in the signal and image processing domain on multimedia and drone products, he joined DXOMARK IMAGE LABS in 2017, as image science director. He participated to the development of image quality measures and protocols. He currently leads a team of image quality experts and acts as scientific director at DXOMARK.
