The following tours are offered as part of Printing for Fabrication 2017 to technical session registrants. All tours take place Thursday, November 9^th.  Advance registration is required. Participation is reserved on a first-come/first-served basis. No refunds will be given, but you may find someone to take your place if you cannot go.

Transportation notes: IS&T has arranged transportation to/from the hotel to/from the tour locations, leaving at 13:45, and returning to the hotel by ~16:45. The non-refundable fee covers the cost of this.

Elementum 3D is an early stage R&D company that specializes in the production of innovative metal-based materials for additive manufacturing (AM). The company’s mission is to transform manufacturing by developing and commercializing groundbreaking AM materials that are not currently available. Elementum 3D develops advanced materials on 3D printers using RAM technology and expert materials science knowhow.

The tour covers materials development work for laser powder bed additive manufacturing, including new alloys, composites, and pure metals being developed for AM. Examples are high-strength aluminum, pure copper, and tungsten alloys. Specialized materials development and testing equipment can be seen within the facility, including two EOS M290s. Elementum 3D is partnered with EOS, the largest manufacturer of industrial powder bed fusion 3D printers in the world.

ADAPT Center: ADAPT is a membership-based organization that solves challenges in metal additive manufacturing (AM) using data informatics-driven approaches that can respond quickly to market demands. During this 45-minute tour, you will interact with Center Faculty and view the capabilities of the lab, including selective laser melting, directed energy deposition machines, X-ray tomography, phase and structure analysis, stress and texture mapping, and thermomechanical testing.

Colorado Fuel Cell Center: The center actively develops electrochemical devices to address electricity generation and energy storage. Batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and membrane reactors are all active topics of R&D. During this 25-minute tour, you will interact with Center Faculty and view the capabilities of the lab, to include solid oxide fuel cells, fuel processing, ceramics processing, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing.

Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum: Recognized as one of the premier museums of its kind, the museum contains extensive displays of minerals, mining artifacts, meteorites, fossils, and gemstones—as well as a walk-through mine—showcasing more than 2,500 catalogued specimens.

Depending on the number of participants, the group may be split in two, with one group visiting ADAPT first, then going to the Fuel Center and Museum, while the other does the reverse. The walk between ADAPT and the Fuel Cell Center is 5-10 minutes.
