SC07

NEW Spectral Imaging: A Non-technical Introduction to What It Is, and Why You Should Care
Instructor: David R. Wyble, Avian Rochester, LLC
Level: Introductory
Duration: 2 hours, with a 15 minute break
Course Date: Monday 14 June
Course Time:
    New York: 10:00 - 12:15
    Paris: 16:00 - 18:15

Prerequisites: No prerequisites

Benefits:
This course enables the attendee to:

  • Understand the terminology of spectral image capture and rendering.
  • Understand the advantages of spectral imaging over conventional RGB imaging.
  • Understand the concept and implications of metamerism.
  • Weigh options with regards to spectral imaging specifications and purchasing.

Intended Audience: Any non-technical manager or professional in archiving related fields, including those active in access, preservation, conservation, and other related fields. Anyone needing a basic understanding of spectral imaging, including current traditional digital photographers who need exposure to spectral imaging concepts and terminology.

Course Description: Nearly every professional across the various fields relating to cultural heritage has heard of spectral imaging. However, relatively few outside of the digitization and advanced imaging fields have a good understanding of what is meant by the term. Practitioners not directly active in digitization and capture will never-the-less still interact with digitization specialists, and managers may be involved with the specification of related hardware, software, or systems of both. This non-technical introduction to the field will provide attendees with the vocabulary surrounding spectral imaging, and an introduction to the implications associated with various terms and techniques in current practice.
