Call for Special Issue Proposals

An invaluable avenue for JIST to concentrate on contemporary emerging or innovative research subjects within the purview of imaging technologies is to publish high impact special issues focusing on a selected topic with thorough theoretical analyses and empirical treatments. Therefore, JIST special issues must be motivated by a clear and convincing emphasis on a designated research topic that is timely, significant and likely to generate interest among JIST's readership, which is different from the focus of well-established JIST-First issues and special issues of annual IS&T conferences. We look forward to hearing your ideas.

Objective

To provide the imaging community documentation on a broad range of imaging research, development, and applications as a way to promote communication and understanding across the boundaries of the many disciplines involved in modern imaging.

Content

Typical issues include research papers and/or comprehensive reviews from a variety of topical areas. In the spirit of fostering constructive scientific dialog, the Journal accepts Letters to the Editor commenting on previously published articles. Periodically the Journal features a Special Section containing a group of related— usually invited—papers introduced by a Guest Editor. Imaging research topics that have coverage in JIST include:

    1. Digital fabrication and biofabrication
    2. Digital printing technologies
    3. 3D imaging: capture, display, and print
    4. Augmented and virtual reality systems
    5. Mobile imaging
    6. Computational and digital photography
    7. Machine vision and learning
    8. Data visualization and analysis
    9. Image and video quality evaluation
    10. Color image science
    11. Image archiving, permanence, and security
    12. Imaging applications including astronomy, medicine, sports, and autonomous vehicles

JIST is indexed by: SCI and Web of Science, Ebsco, Portico, Crossref, CNPIEC, OCLC, EI Compendex, and others.
Five-year impact factor:
0.460.

Paper Submissions

Original manuscripts not previously published and not currently submitted for publication elsewhere may be submitted for peer-review. Prior publication does not refer to conference abstracts, paper summaries, or non-reviewed proceedings.

Please note: IS&T strongly discourages the use of the Lena (Lenna) image in its publications; authors should use other suitable images to illustrate and compare image processing algorithms. IS&T journals no longer review submissions containing the Lena image without convincing scientific justification for its use.

Authors may submit to JIST via jist.msubmit.net. Please review the Author Guidelines and IS&T Publication Policy before submitting your manuscript.

History

In 1990, IS&T merged the Journal of Imaging Science (1985-1989) with the Journal of Imaging Technology (1984-1989) to form the Journal of Imaging Science and Technology (JIST). Articles from JIST since 1997 are available online through the abstract search database. Prior to that, IS&T also published the Photographic Science and Engineering (1957-1984) and the Journal of Applied Photographic Engineering (1975-1983). While copies of articles from these older journals are not available online, they may be accessed by contacting IS&T directly. All JIST articles published since January 1996 (Volume 40, No.1) are available from our digital library.
