New JIST Editor Announced
On behalf of the IS&T Board of Directors, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Dr. George T.-C. Chiu as the new Editor for the Journal of Imaging Science and Technology. Dr. Chiu will assume this position from Dr. Mel Sahyun in January of 2012. Until that time, he and Dr. Sahyun will work together to insure a smooth transition.
Dr. Chiu has been a professor in the school of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University since 1996; prior to that he was a hardware design engineer at Hewlett-Packard Company. He received his BS in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei (1985) and MS and PhD in the same subject from the University of California, Berkeley (1990, 1994). Dr. Chiu's research interests include digital imaging and printing systems; digital fabrication, mechatronics, dynamic systems, and control; and perception-based engineering. He was awarded the status of IS&T Fellow in 2011.
Dr. Chiu has extensive experience in journal publication and administration, serving as associate editor, reviewer, and author for a variety of publications. In particular, his expertise in the area of digital fabrication will help bring focus to this important emerging field within JIST. He also brings with him ideas and insights on how to evolve and maintain JIST as a premier journal in the imaging field.
Dr. Sahyun has served as editor of JIST since 1997. During these years, JIST has evolved to become a mainstream journal for a broad array of topics ranging from color science, image quality, and image archiving, to digital printing materials, processes, and systems. Dr Sahyun has mentored many new authors and spent countless hours insuring the high-quality of each published article. His dedication to the journal is much appreciated by authors and readers.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Chiu to his new role, and thanking Dr. Sahyun for 15 truly outstanding years of service as Editor of JIST.
