The Conference

Join us in Anchorage for the 23rd International Conference on Digital Printing Technologies!

For more than two decades, NIP has been the preeminent forum for discussions of advances and new directions in non-impact and digital printing technologies. This comprehensive, industry-wide conference includes all aspects of the hardware, materials, software, images, and applications associated with digital printing systems, including drop-on-demand ink jet, wide format ink jet, desktop and continuous ink jet, toner-based laser printers, production digital printing systems, and thermal printing systems, as well as the engineering capability, optimization, and science involved in these fields. Novel imaging and applications such as nanoparticles, paper-like displays and digital art also have a place with us. As in 2006, NIP will be held in conjunction with Digital Fabrication 2007, a conference that explores the potential of digital printing technologies with new applications and materials that go well beyond traditional printing and have been used to produce MEMS and electronic devices.

For NIP23, a comprehensive program of more than 200 contributed and invited papers from leading scientists and engineers is planned, along with keynote addresses. Sessions of invited papers on special topics include advanced material quality control instrumentation and advanced photoreceptor architectures. An extensive selection of tutorials; discussion panels; a print gallery; and an exhibition featuring more than 50 companies showcasing digital printing components, products, materials, and equipment complete the comprehensive week long event.

Tutorials

In addition to stimulating technical sessions, NIP23 attendees will be able to choose from approximately 25 tutorials taught by world-renowned experts on a wide range of digital printing technology subjects. You are sure to find a tutorial of interest that either introduces you to a new field or keeps you up to speed with the latest developments in your field! Be sure to check out the tutorial offerings in the Preliminary Program.

Keynotes

A highlight of NIP23 will be keynote addresses by leading authorities in the industry and related scientific fields. Keynotes bring a broad perspective to industry-wide issues, important technical achievements, and market trends by internationally known speakers from North America, Europe, and Asia. This year’s keynotes will look at color pigment technology, spectral color printing, advances in material processing, developments on digital workflow, and industry consolidation, as well as the adaptation of digital printing technologies for digital fabrication.

Special Topic Sessions

A number of special topic sessions offering invited presentations by experts in key areas related to digital printing and imaging will survey developments in the field and present the authors’ new contributions. These sessions give conference participants an invaluable opportunity to learn more about both emerging and core technologies in these areas:

  • Digital art
  • Advanced material and nanoparticles in imaging
  • Advanced photoreceptor architectures
  • Fusing, curing, and drying technologies and challenges
  • Adding value to prints by finishing
  • Quality control instrumentation for digital printing

Print and Art Galleries

The Print Gallery provides an up-close, detailed look at the performance capabilities and relative advantages of various printing technologies on paper and traditional media. A test image is provided for benchmarking to allow comparison of technologies. However, all samples will be welcome.

The Art Gallery, held in conjunction with the special session on Digital Art, will show how artists use digital print and new imaging materials today.

For more information on participation in the Print Art Gallery, please contact Dinesh Tyagi at Eastman Kodak Company: tyagi@kodak.com 585/726-7060.

Intellectual Property Panel Discussion

This panel will address the impact of national and international law on innovation in imaging and important aspects of patent, copyright, and trademark protection. Interested parties should contact Gaurav Sharma, University of Rochester at gaurav.sharma@rochester.edu; 585/275-7313.

Collocation

Collocation with Digital Fabrication 2007 allows NIP23 attendees access to a meeting focused on the cutting edge of digital manufacturing technology. The synergy created by collocation will afford professionals from both fields the opportunity to discuss overlaps and intersections between the two technical areas of imaging and manufacturing. Our goal is to help develop a new community of scientists and engineers focused on extending nonimpact printing methods and materials to the emerging area of digital fabrication.

Invitation to Exhibitors

More than 750 digital printing and fabrication industry leaders and technical experts will gather in Alaska for NIP23 and Digital Fabrication 2007. A highlight of the conference, the exhibit traditionally features more than 50 companies showcasing state-of-the-art printing products and applications, including equipment and materials, inks and toners, papers, films, textiles, and test equipment.

If you’d like to exhibit at NIP23/DF2007 please contact Exhibit Co-chairs Laura Kitzmann (laura.kitzmann@ sensient-tech. com) or Cindy Morgan (cindy.morgan@ inkjetsys.com). You may also contact Donna Smith (dsmith@imaging.org) at IS&T. The exhibit dates for 2007 are Tuesday, September 18th and Wednesday, September 19th.
