IntroductionAn Invitation to DPP2005Amsterdam is the venue for this year’s DPP, the International Conference on Digital Production Printing and Industrial Applications. Amsterdam, the birthplace of the very first stock exchange, with its harbour, its numerous banks, and the headquarters of many national and international companies, is synonymous with thriving business. An innovative city with a rich historical and cultural perspective, Amsterdam is the perfect setting for another innovation: the co-location of DPP2005 with Grafivak 2005. As the general chair of this conference and on behalf of the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), I am delighted to invite you to the first DPP to run alongside a business trade fair. After Drupa, Grafivak is the largest professional printing industry exhibition in Europe, hosting more than 150 exhibitors. Grafivak provides an important addition to this year’s DPP conference programme. A Sharp ViewDPP2005 will take place from 9 to 13 May at the RAI Europa Complex in Amsterdam. As on previous occasions, the conference will provide a valued platform for vendors, users, industry specialists, consultants, and colleagues to exchange and explore the latest views on market and technological developments in the digital printing arena. Through co-location with Grafivak, the conference offers a sharp view of the entire digital production printing business. Both customers and users will have the opportunity to take note of the latest developments, exchange their practical experiences with other conference attendees, and stay attuned to the latest solutions for satisfying today’s market demands. A Focus on Customer NeedsFor the first time a series of workshops is part of the conference programme. These workshops, chaired by leading industry specialists, will further facilitate the exchange of ideas, experience, and knowhow among users by focusing on end-customer needs. The conference will feature speeches by industry leaders and programme topics covering two basic areas of interest: digital production and industrial printing. There will be plenty of opportunity to strengthen your relationship with those important to your business within the formal technical programme, during discussions at sessions and tutorials, at the exhibition, and also during the informal social events organised by IS&T. I look forward to meeting you in Amsterdam in May at DPP2005.
